Wednesday at the Well: Psalm 51:1-7 - Forgiveness - Give it...Get it

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Verses to Explore: Psalm 51:1-7

The Bible tells us about many people who did bad things then were sorry for doing those things.

The woman at the well had been married five times. When she met Jesus at the well, she was living with a man but they were not married.

Zacchaeus, the tax collector was a liar, a thief, and a cheat.

Both Moses and King David were murderers.

King David was also an adulterer.

Noah got drunk.

Even the wise King Solomon foolishly disobeyed God. He married many women who didn’t worship the true God. Then he stopped worshipping God with his whole heart.

Everyone needs forgiveness, but no one has done anything so awful that God can’t forgive him. 1 John 1:9 says, "… if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done."

It doesn’t matter how many bad things you have done. It doesn’t matter if the bad things you’ve done are really awful. God will forgive you. I hope you will say to God,

“Scrub away my guilt. Wash me clean from my sin…Remove my sin and make me pure. Wash me until I am whiter than snow” just like King David did in Psalm 51 verses 2 & 7.

Let’s pray together. God, forgive us for the bad things that we’ve done. Help us to make better choices from now on. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

I hope you will stick around a bit longer by downloading the study guide (click the logo) and do a bit more study on today’s Bible verses.

PS: When I did the art for this Bible Study/Devotional I couldn't resist doing a version of my "Mini Gayle" looking like Pigpen from the Peanuts comic strip. It seemed a perfect way to make visible the inner sin that is sometimes hidden under a facade but that God knows about and Jesus forgave.
