Bible Reading: Matthew 13:45-46
In today’s Bible reading, Jesus told a story about pearls saying, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went
away and sold everything he had and bought it.”
When an expert in pearls finds a pearl of exquisite quality, he will do whatever he has to do to be able to buy that pearl. He knows that an exquisite pearl is extremely rare and worth great effort to acquire.
Jesus is like that pearl. The salvation, forgiveness, grace, joy, eternal life, and other things that Jesus has to offer are worth giving up everything we have to acquire. That’s because Jesus’ gifts to us aren’t just rarely found, they are only found in Jesus. The beauty and perfection of Jesus is worth doing anything that we have to do to make them ours.
Are you hanging on to some habit, or thing, refusing to give it up in order to have Jesus in your life? Is it truly worth keeping that thing to give up having Jesus, the pearl of heaven, in your life? Is there anything that is worth the price of sacrificing eternal life in heaven with Jesus?
“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.” Mark 8:35
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’ll give up everything I own just to have Jesus in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
