It's OK if You Don't "Feel" Saved

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Verses to Explore: 1 John 5:11-13

When you first accepted Christ as your Savior, how did you feel? You probably felt wonderful! Did you expect that wonderful, exciting feeling to last forever?

Your excitement at becoming a new Christian may have disappeared.

Suppose you don’t feel saved. Does mean you aren’t really saved?

No.

Our emotions or feelings like happiness, excitement, sadness, fear don’t save us. Emotions and feelings can’t prevent us from being saved.

Can you truly know you are saved?

Yes.

How?

Believe God really sent Jesus to die in your place.

Believe God really sent the Holy Spirit to live within your heart and help you obey God.

Believe God has a place waiting for you in heaven.

Tell God that you believe Him and believe that He did those things?

If you believe these things then you are saved, no matter how you feel! Do you still need more assurance?

Be sure to read your Bible daily. That way, when doubts creep into your mind, God’s word will be able to reassure you that, if you have confessed your sin and claimed Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are saved and bound for heaven, even if you don’t feel saved. God’s word, including today’s Bible verses, offer much assurance of salvation. In fact, giving assurance was one reason why John wrote his letters to the churches. In 1 John 5 13 John said, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Another way to seek assurance of your salvation is to pray and ask God to give it to you. With that in mind, let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, thank You for saving each one of us who has confessed his or her sin to You and asked Jesus to be his or her Lord and Savior. We trust You to take care of us no matter how we feel. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
