Wednesday at the Well: Ecclesiastes 12:13 & 14 - Fear God

Bible Verses to Explore: Ecclesiastes 12:12-14

Verse 13 in our Bible reading says, “The most important thing a person can do is to respect God and obey his commands.” In some translations of the Bible, that verse says we

should “fear God.” Does that mean we should be afraid of God? No. Should we be scared to talk to God or come close to Him when we worship? No.

In the Bible to fear God means to respect God. How do we respect God?

First, we need to be sure that God has the most important place in our life. We need to love God more than anyone or anything else. We should worship only God. We should obey God. We should spend time with God – in prayer, in church, and in Bible

reading. We should share God and his love with others. We should listen to God. We should never use God’s name a curse word. We should never use God’s name to swear to a promise that we can’t keep.

Have you shown respect to God in the past?

Are you willing to begin respecting God now? I hope so. God deserves our love, our obedience, and our respect.

I love the reminder Solomon gave us in Ecclesiastes 8:12 which says, “A sinner might do a hundred evil things and still live a long time. But I know that it is still better to obey and respect God.” Ecclesiastes 8:12

Shall we pray?

Heavenly Father, help us to always give You the respect, honor, and glory that You deserve. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
