Muddy Shoes

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Psalm 51:7

Telling a lie is like walking into muddy field wearing white shoes. Once you’ve put one foot into the mud, your shoe will never be the same. It is impossible to shake, rub, or

wash away all of the mud. Your white shoes are forever stained. It can seem pointless to try to clean the shoe or to try to keep the other shoe clean, so once one shoe is muddy, there is less keeping you from taking another step into that muddy field – and then another step, and another.

Once you’ve told a lie, it becomes hard shake free from it. Having told one lie, it often seems easier, at least at first, to tell another to hide the first than to try to make it right. Before you know it, you are knee-deep in the muddy mire of your own words.

Are you wading around in the muddy mess of lies and half-truths?

Before you have sunk so deep that no one trusts you, go to God and tell Him the truth. Then tell the truth to the person you lied to. Unlike those mud-stained shoes, God can wash you spotlessly clean in the blood of Jesus. He will cleanse you and you will “be whiter than snow” (Psalm 51:7).

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to always be honest and truthful with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
