Wednesday at the Well: Colossians 3:16 & 17 - Best Time of the Day

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Verses to Explore: Colossians 3:16 & 17

Devotions are a way of spending time with God. They include reading the Bible, praying, and listening for God’s voice. Christians need to do devotions every day.

When should we do our devotions? Should we do our devotions when we are sleepy or when we can’t concentrate? No. Today’s Bible reading says, “Everything you say and everything you do should be done for Jesus your Lord” (verse 17a) and Deuteronomy 6:5 says, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” The message of these verses is that we should do everything, even our devotions, the best way we can. We should give God our best because we love Him.

For some people, early morning is the best part of their day. It is when they are the freshest and the most alert. People like this should have their devotions in the morning.

Some people need more time to wake up before they can concentrate. They do their best work after they’ve had some food and stretched a little. After lunch is a good time for these people to spend with God.

Other people are night owls. They think best in the evening hours. They should spend time with God after supper or before bed.

When is your best time of the day?

That is the time of day to spend with God. God deserves to have the best time of the day.

Please pray with me. Heavenly Father, help us to give You the best part of our day – every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

I hope you will give God a little more of your time by downloading the Inductive Study Guide and exploring Colossians 3:16 & 17 (and maybe Deuteronomy 6:5) a bit more. Enjoy your time with the Lord!
