Lovely Thoughts

Bible Reading: Philippians 4:8

Philippians 4:8 says “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable— if anything is excellent or

praiseworthy— think about such things.” (Emphasis added.)

Lovely, is a word that isn't used much anymore. What comes to mind when you hear the word lovely?

Lovely is more than something pretty to see; lovely is something that is close to your heart. It is words and actions that shows love toward others in such a way that it encourages others to show love in return. Lovely is doing and saying things that are pleasing to other people, things that help people want to get along together, that inspire other people to do and say lovely things as well.

To be able to do and say lovely things, we first have to think lovely thoughts. Lovely thoughts include forgiveness, kindness, and respectfulness. They include focusing on what is admirable or worthwhile about another person. They are willing to forget the past and start fresh.

Are you filling your mind with lovely things or is your mind still filled with bitter, angry, hateful, unforgiving, disrespectful, malicious thoughts from the past?

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5

Prayer: Heavenly Father, clean out all of the unlovely thoughts from the deepest corners of my mind. Help me to fill my mind only with lovely things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
