Finding the Door to Heaven

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: John 10:1-10

The high walls of the sheepfold trapped the sheep. They couldn’t jump over them. When the shepherd opened the door, the sheep were free to leave. The door was their only

way out, the only way to true freedom. Once the sheep left the fold, they were under the personal care of the shepherd. He provided the sheep with food, gave them direction, and protected them from danger.

The Old Testament law was like a sheepfold to us. It trapped us because we were unable to do all that it required.

Jesus became the Door. In John 10:7 (NKJV), Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.” Jesus became our only way out of the entrapment of the law, passage to true freedom. If we believe that Jesus died for our sins, we are free to walk through the “Door” into the freedom of being under the personal care of God, our Shepherd, who protects us and provides for all of our needs.

Jesus won’t drive us out of the fold by force. He is in front of us, leading us out of the fold. It’s up to us to choose whether to remain trapped by the law or to choose freedom through Christ.

Have you passed through the Door?

“I [Jesus] am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” John 10:9 (NKJV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I believe that Jesus is the door that opens into the freedom of heaven. Forgive my sin and let me pass through. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
