Cloudy Situations

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Philippians 1:27a

Have you asked God to help you decide what classes to take or whether or not to take a specific job or to help you make some other decision? Did His answer seem cloudy?

Sometimes when we pray, God’s answers are very clear. They leave us with no doubt as to what God expects of us.

At other times, God’ answers are a little foggy. When that happens, how are we to know what to do?

Here are some guidelines to help clear up those cloudy situations:

  1. Always act out of love. Every decision that you make should demonstrate love for God and for other people. Any decision that doesn’t, is a wrong decision.

  2. Examine you talents and abilities. God gave you those talents for a reason.

  3. Consider the circumstances. Whatever is going on around you may help you make your decision, but those circumstances don’t necessarily dictate God’s will.

  4. Get another opinion. Advice from trusted, responsible people is always helpful.

  5. Keep your ears open. God may give you personal direction, and then again, he may not. He wants you to mature in your ability to make wise, discerning decisions, and you can’t do that if He makes all of your decisions for you.

No matter what decision you have to make, it is important to follow Paul’s instructions in Philippians 1:27a, “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”

I’m praying for God to give you the wisdom you need to make all of the decisions you face.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” James 1:5 & 6

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me clear the fog in my mind so that I can make wise decisions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
