Bible Reading: John 8:12
When Jesus came to live on earth, His mission was to make a way for us to be able to go to heaven in spite of our sins. To do this, Jesus died on the cross in our place. Then
He rose from the dead, returned to heaven, and became The Way to heaven. Only by believing in Jesus and what He did for us can we go to heaven.
Jesus didn’t just make a way for us to go to heaven, His life on earth was lived to be a light that shows the way to heaven. We know this because in John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Just as we can follow the beam of a flashlight through a dark room, we can follow The Light, Jesus, out of the darkness of sin. Jesus lights the way to heaven.
When Jesus returned to heaven, he left us here to take over where he left off. Now we are to be “the light of the world” and show others The Way to heaven.
Jesus did His job, now it’s our turn.
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to light the way to heaven for me. Now help me light the way to heaven for my friends. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
