Bible Verse to Explore: Matthew 11:28
How long would you last if you didn’t sleep?
Our bodies were designed by God to require regular rest. During those hours of sleep our minds and bodies repair and rejuvenate. They recover from the energy drain of
one day and prepare for the energy demand of the next day. Without sleep we become more susceptible to illness. We increase the chances of our having an accident. We become less and less able to think clearly. Our ability to make decisions becomes impaired. The affects of sleep deprivation can exhaust us physically and emotionally.
How long do you try to go without reading the Bible? The affects of being “Word-deprived” also exhaust us physically and emotionally not to mention spiritually. Without
regular time in the Word, we don’t think the way God wants us to think. We don’t act the way God desires. We become less and less able to be like God because our minds become numbed, spiritually exhausted. Our minds become deprived of the rest that we can find only by spending time daily in the Bible.
Our Bible verse today says, “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Jesus is always there for us. We need only to rest in His word and allow Him to strengthen and refresh us, so let’s cling to the precious truth of Psalm 116:7 – “Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.” Psalm 116:7
Let’s pray together. Heavenly Father, give us true rest as we spend time in your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
