The Belt of Truth

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Ephesians 6:13-18

Truth is one of the Christians best weapons against sin. Paul referred to truth as a belt that we wrap around ourselves saying, “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled

around your waist…” (Ephesians 6:14) The belt of truth holds our Christian life together and protects our heart from all kinds of sin. Truth is our first line of defense when Satan attacks. Satan knows that if he can convince us to lie he has found a way past our spiritual armor. When he has done that, it is easier for him to attack other areas of our lives.

Telling the truth when we are talking to others is one way of wrapping the “Belt of Truth” around ourselves. Other ways to cinch the “Belt of Truth” snugly around us are:

* Avoid those who lie (2 Timothy 4:4).

* Fill our minds with truthful thoughts (Philippians 4:8).

* Follow up the truth that we think and speak with actions that demonstrate that truth (2 Corinthians 4:2).

* Encourage truthfulness in others (Ephesians 6:25).

* Notice truthfulness in others and greatly value both the truth and the truthful person (Proverbs 23:23).

* Make truthfulness an integral part of our lives (Proverbs 3:3).

Are you keeping the “Belt of Truth” snugly wrapped around your life?

“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

Prayer: Heavenly Father, point out any untruthfulness in my life. Help me to snug the “Belt of Truth” around me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
