The Anchor

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: John 16:33

In John 16:33 Jesus said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

Peace is – believing that God is in control even during hard times.

Peace is – trusting God to do what is best even when you are afraid.

Peace is – internal calm during external chaos.

To have peace, we need something dependable to hold us securely in place while the winds and waves of hard, chaotic events toss the ship of life brutally along. To have peace, we need Jesus. Jesus anchors us securely even during life’s worst storms.

Ray Boltz sang it beautifully:

“The anchor holds

Though the ship is battered

The anchor holds

Though the sails are torn

I have fallen on my knees

As I face the raging seas

But the anchor holds

In spite of the storm”

Is your life filled with chaos and turmoil? Are the storms of life throwing you around as you struggle to stay on your feet?

God hasn’t promised to calm all of life’s storms and give us unending smooth sailing, but He has promised to give us an Anchor that will hold us securely while the storms rage around us.

Take hold of The Anchor, the only one who can give you peace in the midst of the storm.

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf.” Hebrews 6:19 & 20a

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I ask Jesus into my life. Forgive my sins and give me peace and security during life’s storms. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
