Bible Reading: John 15:1-17
In John 15:1 Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.” Jesus also said that we are the “branches.” Just as a grapevine can only produce one kind of fruit,
grapes, only one kind of “fruit” can grow on the branches attached to the true vine. That fruit is the love, truth, grace, and forgiveness of Christ. Just as you can’t find apples, pears, peaches or any other kind of fruit on a grapevine, you can’t find fruits like as hatred, deceitfulness, selfishness, or bitterness on branches that are permanently attached to the true vine.
Only branches that are permanently attached to the true vine belong to the true vine. To belong to the true vine and be able to produce Christ-like fruit, we must admit to God that we have sinned and ask for His forgiveness. God will then give us His Holy Spirit who will help us produce Christ-like fruit.
What kind of fruit are you producing in your life? Does the fruit that you are producing show others that you are a branch of the true vine or do you need to be attached to the true vine so that you can begin producing Christ-like fruit?
“Remain in me [Jesus], and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” John 15:4
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive my sins. Permanently attach me to the True Vine so that I can begin producing Christ-like fruit for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
