Wednesday at the Well: James 5:7-9 - Waiting

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Verses to Explore: James 5:7-9

Imagine a caterpillar inside a chrysalis. It can’t fly, but it waits patiently. The caterpillar knows it will fly someday.

Waiting is part of life for people just as it is for caterpillars. Waiting is often hard. Waiting for a friend to call can be boring. Waiting for our birthday or Christmas to come isn’t fun. Waiting in a long checkout line can be frustrating. However, James 5:7 & 8 tell us to "Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near."

Waiting for God to answer a prayer can be hard, too. Imagine someone is waiting

with you. Will that make waiting easier? Yes.

I know someone who is always willing to wait with you. Who? God.

God is wonderful. God is patient. God understands that it’s hard for us to wait. While God waits with us, he helps us become more patient. That makes waiting easier.

The next time you are waiting in line, waiting for a special day to arrive, or waiting for God to answer a prayer, talk to God. Ask him to wait with you. Ask him to help you wait patiently. As you do, you will begin to experience the joy described in Isaiah 40:31 which says, “But those who trust in the LORD will become strong again – like eagles that grow new feathers. They will run and not get weak. They will walk and not get tired.” Doesn’t that sound amazing?

Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, it’s hard to wait. Please wait with us. Help us be patient while we wait on Your timing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thanks for reading this devotion. I hope you will click on the logo, download the Inductive Study Guide, and allow God to teach you more about James 5:7-9 as you patiently wait on Him and allow Him to teach and guide you. God bless!
