Delight & Desires

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Psalm 37:4

Psalm 37:4 contains a wonderful promise: “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Are you waiting for God to keep that promise and “give you the desires of your heart”?

Before that can happen, you need to meet the requirement at the beginning of the verse and “Delight yourself in the LORD.”

How can you know if you “delight” in the Lord?

Ask yourself the following questions:

* Are you glad that God is God?

* Are you glad that God revealed Himself to you?

* Do you thank God often for sending Jesus to die for your sin?

* Do you depend completely on God to run your life?

* Do you find comfort in knowing that God is always with you?

* Do you relish the fact that God takes care of all your needs?

* Do you gratefully enjoy all of the good things that God has already provided for you?

* Do you feel safe, confident that you can trust God to protect you?

* Are you convinced that God loves you?

* Do you have a great desire to spend time with God, reading His Word and talking to Him in prayer?

If you couldn’t quickly and confidently answer, “Yes,” to all of the above questions, run, don’t walk, to God and ask Him to help you deepen your love relationship with Him. Doing these things is how you delight in the Lord, how you relish His presence in your life.

When you have committed yourself to making these things the focus of your life, God will keep His word and give you the desires of your heart.

What are you waiting for?

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to delight in You, loving You with my whole being. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
