Strengthen Your Backbone

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Proverbs 4:25-27

Calcium and exercising with weights are two of the best ways to ensure that our bones stay strong. If we deprive our bodies of calcium and exercise, our bones will

gradually soften and weaken. It is important to our physical health to eat well and exercise to strengthen our bones.

It is also important to keep our spiritual “backbone” strong with proper spiritual food and exercise. If your backbone seems a little weak, how can you strengthen it?

First, “feed” on regular servings of God’s Word. That will give you a solid understanding of God’s stand on various subjects. The better you understand where God stands, the better you will understand where you, as a child of God, stand on those same subjects.

Second, “stretch” your prayer muscles. God’s strength will become your strength if you reach out to Him and take hold of it.

Knowing that you believe the same things that God believes and that you have God’s strength not just your own will give your spiritual “backbone” the strength it needs to stand firm even when your beliefs are under attack. You will be able to “…look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil” (Proverbs 4:25-27).

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:17 & 18

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the strength that I need to take a strong stand for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
