Bible Reading: James 1:15
When you plant an apple seed, it sprouts, grows, and produces apples. That process can be relied upon. It is consistent. You can’t plant an apple see and grow a puppy or
kitten.
Likewise, you can’t plan unkind, selfish, wicked ideas in your mind and expect to grow a loving, kind, unselfish, godly person. James 1:15 tells us, “Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” The only thing that can grow out of mean, unkind, selfish, wicked ideas are unkind, selfish, wicked actions.
To grow a godly person we must plant the “seeds” of godly ideas. Philippians 4:8 gives us a list of the kinds of “seeds” that God wants us to plant in our minds: “…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.”
Plant plenty of these kinds of seeds in your mind, “water” them with prayer, “fertilize” them with the food of God’s Word, the Bible, then watch those seeds grow in to a beautiful “bouquet” of godly actions in your life that shows God in all His glory to others.
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” Galatians 6:7 & 8
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to have thoughts and ideas that will grow into a beautiful bouquet of godly actions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
