Bible Verses to Explore: Genesis 3:1-6
In today’s Bible reading, Eve was tempted to eat the fruit that God told her not to eat. Eve knew that God didn’t want her to eat that fruit. Eve had to make a choice: eat the
fruit or don’t eat the fruit. Eve could do right or she could do wrong. What did Eve do? She did what was wrong. Eve ate the fruit.
Every day, we must make choices. Every day we must choose between right and wrong. If we choose to do the wrong thing, we allow our bodies to control us. If we do the right thing, we control our bodies.
If Jesus is our Savior, we can choose what is right. Romans 6:6 says, “We know that our old life was put to death on the cross with Christ. This happened so that our sinful selves would have no power over us. Then we would not be slaves to sin. Anyone who has died is made free from sin's control.” When we ask Jesus to be our Lord and Savior sin stops controlling us. Jesus helps us say, “No,” to wrong, and “Yes,” to doing right. It’s up to us to make the right choice.
The next time you need to make a choice, I hope you will choose to the right thing. It’s important that we remember the warning of Genesis 4:7: “You know that if you do what is right, I will accept you. But if you don't, sin is ready to attack you. That sin will want to control you, but you must control it.”
Let’s pray. Heavenly Father, Help us to say, “No,” to what is wrong and to say “Yes,” to what is right. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
