Listen to Wisdom

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 10:6, 8

Today’s Bible reading tells us, “Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime…But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders

gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.”

King Rehoboam learned the hard way that while a person may not like the advice of older people (parents, grandparents, teachers, etc.) sometimes they have a wisdom that younger people haven’t developed yet.

While asking your friends for their opinions on a problem may be helpful, don’t refuse to ask for or listen to advice from your parents and other adults simply because they are older than you are or because you don’t like their opinions on other topics. Their additional years of experience provide them insight and information into consequences of actions that a younger person hasn’t had time yet to learn about.

Talking to trusted adults and asking for and listening to their opinions is one of the best ways to grow in wisdom. Paying attention to their views will not only provide you with wisdom for dealing with your current situation, it will enable you to be prepared to offer wise advice to those younger than you.

Luke 2:52 says, “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Can the same thing be said about you?

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.” Proverbs 19:20

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to listen to wisdom so that I may grow in wisdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
