The True Friend

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Psalm 41:9

In Psalm 41:9, David wrote, “Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.” David’s dearest friend betrayed him. This friend

, who had been David’s closest confidant, had insulted him, deserted him, and worked against David to try to ruin David’s kingdom.

David was deeply hurt by his friend’s disloyalty and betrayal. He cried out to God for justice and comfort. David knew that when all else failed he could continue to rely on God. He knew that God would deal with those who had mistreated and abused him. He knew that God would always be there, always be loyal, and always keep his confidences. David knew that God would never betray him.

How do you react when a friend says or does something that hurts you?

Do you blame God for giving you lousy friends or for not punishing them quickly enough or do you run to God as David did, seeking God’s love and comfort and looking to God to deliver justice at just the right moment?

“But you, O Sovereign LORD, deal well with me for your name's sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.” Psalm 109:21

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’m feeling so hurt. I need Your love. I need You to deal with my untrue friend. Thank You, Lord, for always being there for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
