Bible Reading: Genesis 12:1-3

Today’s Bible reading, Genesis 12:1-3 contains an amazing promise made by God to Abram. These verses say, “The LORD had said to Abram…‘I will make you into a great nation

and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.’”

Doesn’t the promise that God made to Abram sound terrific? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have God give us such a promise?

The fact is, we have been blessed because of the promise that God made to Abram. The blessing in that promise included sending a Messiah, to give us a way out of the trap of sin and back into closeness with God. That Messiah, is Jesus. When Jesus was born on earth then died on the cross, He took the punishment for all of the sins of the world – yours and mine included. That is what God was saying when He told Abram that, “all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (verse 3). He planned to bless us by giving us the freedom to choose between having no choice but to live a life filled with sin or accepting Jesus’ being punished in our place so that we can be free from having to sin.

Won’t you choose to accept God’s blessing today?

“Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.” Revelation 20:6

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the blessing that comes through Jesus, the Messiah. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
