Wednesday at the Well: Psalm 55:17 - Prayer Part 2

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Verses to Explore: Psalm 55:17, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Matthew 6:6, & Romans 12:12

Iin Psalm 55:17 the psalmist wrote, "Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice." What does it mean to “pray morning, noon, and night?”

Does it mean that we must pray exactly three times every day? No. Does it mean we can only pray three times? No.

“Pray morning, noon, and night” means that we should always be in close communication with God.

How?

First, confess all your sins. Tell God you disobeyed Him and you are sorry.

Second, read the Bible everyday so you can learn God’s thoughts. That will give you things to talk to God about.

Third, think prayers to God often during the day. Include Him in the little details of your daily life. That is what 1 Thessalonians 5:17 means when it says, “Never stop praying.”

Fourth, plan a special time at least once a day to meet with God for a planned time of prayer. That is what Jesus advised us to do in Matthew 6:6a, “But when you pray, you should go into your room and close the door. Then pray to your Father.”

Finally, listen for God’s voice. When you can recognize God’s voice, it will be easier to know when He is speaking. Also, it will be easier to notice when God answers your prayers.

I hope you will “pray morning, noon, and night” every day.

As you download the Inductive Bible Study Guide and begin your exploration of today’s Bible verse, keep in mind Paul’s words in Romans 12:12 – “Be happy because of the hope you have. Be patient when you have troubles. Pray all the time.” Romans 12:12

Let’s pray together. Heavenly Father, You are important to us. Remind us to talk to You morning, noon, and night. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
