Son of Man

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Mark 10:45

Mark 10:45 says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” “The Son of Man” that this verse talks about is Jesus.

God sent Jesus to earth to live the life of a human. Jesus was sent by God to be the “Representative Man” to do and feel and experience everything that we do and feel and experience, but he was to do it perfectly, without sinning by disobeying God, the one thing we are unable to do.

For the 33 years that Jesus lived on earth in a human body, he never once used any of the power or privileges that he possessed as God for his own benefit. Jesus set aside all of the power and privileges of being God to squeeze himself into a human body of flesh and bone. He willingly confined himself to give us the chance to become free from sin.

Because Jesus was able to live his human life in perfect obedience to God, we can have life that lasts forever. We didn’t earn it – we didn’t perfectly obey God – God gives us life that lasts forever only because of Jesus, God’s only Son, and the perfectly obedient life that he lived on earth.

“He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.” Mark 8:31

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I can’t obey you perfectly by myself. I’m sorry. I believe that Jesus obeyed you perfectly in my place. Send your Spirit to help me obey you from now on. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
