The Life to Come

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1

We all know that everyone dies, but the death of our earthly body isn’t the end of our lives. You’ve heard that after a Christian dies, he spends eternity in heaven and that when

an unbeliever dies, he spends eternity in hell. 2 Corinthians 5:1 confirms these facts saying, “Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” The human body is temporary, but we can have a body and home that will last forever.

Maybe you still find it hard to believe that there really is life after death. What evidence is there that there really is a better, eternal life to come for those who believe in Jesus?

The fact of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is the best evidence we have that there is life after death. Jesus, Himself, taught many times that he would be raised from the dead to eternal life (Matthew 16:21; Mark 8:31; John 4:14). Also, many people saw Jesus alive after his death on the cross (Matthew 28:8-10; Mark 16:9-20; Luke 24:13-51; John 20:1-18; Acts 1:3, 2:31 and 32, 3:15).

I encourage you to look up some of these Bible passages and read them for yourself. If you don’t have a Bible handy, you can use one at Bible Gateway. I’d recommend the New International Version, the Easy to Read Bible, or the New Living Translation. Bible Gateway has all three.

Knowing eternal life is real is comforting. How can you be sure that you will be included in that eternal life in heaven?

1 John 5:12 gives us the answer: “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” It’s a simple as that. Confess your sins and ask God’s forgiveness then ask Jesus to take control of your life by becoming your Lord and Savior.

The question is...Are you ready for the life to come?

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me for all the wrong things I’ve done. I want Jesus to be my Savior so I can live forever in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
