Birth Stories - A Unique Look at the Birth of Christ - Part 8: Birth of a Prophet

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

(We are taking a break from our Wednesday at the Well Bible studies because I know time is often limited during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Wednesday at the Well will resume after Christmas. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, and a Wonderful New Year! - Gayle)

Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 18:15-18

For the past few days, we have been talking about the many parts of Jesus’ birth, all the things Jesus was born to be.

We aren’t finished yet. Today we will talk about the Prophet that was born on that first Christmas.

In Deuteronomy 18:15 Moses said, “The Lord your God will send to you a prophet. This prophet will come from among your own people, and he will be like me. You must listen to him.” Who was the Prophet Moses was talking about? Jesus. Thousands of years before that first Christmas, God promised to send a special Prophet. This Prophet would give people an important message from God. This Prophet would tell people about God, His plan of salvation, and His coming kingdom.

Jesus, Himself said, “That is because what I taught was not from myself. The Father who sent me told me what to say and what to teach.” (John 12:49). Jesus wanted everyone to know that His whole life and ministry was to do and say what God wanted Him to do and say.

God has given each of us a message, too. God wants us to tell people about God, His plan of salvation, and His coming kingdom, just like Jesus.

“The crowds following Jesus answered, “This is Jesus. He is the prophet from the town of Nazareth in Galilee.” Matthew 21:11

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me a message to share with people. Help me to obey You and deliver that message. In Jesus' name. Amen.
