Birth Stories - A Unique Look at the Birth of Christ - Part 7: Birth of a Physician

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

(We are taking a break from our Wednesday at the Well Bible studies because I know time is often limited during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Wednesday at the Well will resume after Christmas. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, and a Wonderful New Year! - Gayle)

Bible Reading: 1 Peter 2:21b-24

Our generation is blessed. We have many physicians and nurses available to help keep our bodies and minds healthy.

On that first Christmas, a special Physician was born. That Physician was Jesus. Jesus is often called “The Great Physician.”

Why?

Jesus was born to heal our physical bodies. During His earthly ministry, Jesus healed the blind, the deaf, the crippled, the sick, and the diseased. Jesus can heal us too, if we ask then trust Him to heal us.

Jesus was born to heal our souls, too. 1 Peter 2:24 says, “Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you were healed.” Because of Jesus’ death on the cross, we can be healed spiritually. That means our souls can be healed of the pain and destruction caused by sin. No other physician can heal our souls. Only Jesus, The Great Physician, can do that.

Are you struggling with physical injury, sickness, or disease? Ask The Great Physician to heal your body.

Are you struggling with pain caused by sin? Ask The Great Physician to heal your soul.

He will.

“He [Jesus] heals their broken hearts and bandages their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the physical and spiritual healing available through Jesus, The Great Physician. In Jesus' name. Amen.
