Birth Stories - A Unique Look at the Birth of Christ - Part 2: Birth of a Carpenter

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Mark 6:3

Our current series is about Jesus’ birth story. Today, we will talk about the birth of a carpenter.

In one way, Jesus was born just as you and I were born, as a baby. Being born as a baby is the usual start to any human life.

As a boy, Jesus studied and worked with his father, Joseph. Joseph, taught Jesus to be a carpenter. A common occupation.

Once, after Jesus began His ministry here on earth, some people said, “Isn’t he just the carpenter we know –Mary’s son, the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And don’t his sisters still live here in town?” So they had a problem accepting him.” These people only saw Jesus as a carpenter. They didn’t recognize Him as the Messiah.

God planned for Jesus to be born to be a carpenter. God wanted Jesus to experience the usual, day-to-day challenges and temptations that we face. He needed to do those things without sin. His perfect life allowed Him to die in our place on the cross.

Thank God for the birth of a carpenter that created a way for us to be forgiven of our sins!

“Christ had no sin, but God made him become sin so that in Christ we could be right with God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the perfect life of Jesus, the carpenter, that made a way for me to be forgiven. In Jesus' name. Amen.
