Bible Reading: Matthew 21:9
In Matthew 21, we read about how the crowd that went before and after Jesus on the road to Jerusalem cheered Him, saying “‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ ‘Blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Hosanna in the highest!’”
Hosanna is a beautiful word. It means, “save now, we pray!” It refers to the Messiah or Savior that God promised to send the Jews. It is a word of praise and celebration.
The people cried out, “Hosanna!” as Jesus entered Jerusalem at His Triumphal Entry. By doing that, they were welcoming Jesus’ coming kingdom and wishing His kingdom great success. They were celebrating Jesus’ arrival as their King and Messiah or Savior.
One week later, that same crowd was shouting, “Crucify him!” (Mark 15:13) as Jesus was railroaded through six illegal trials. They rejected the King they had so joyfully welcomed just one week before.
Although they rejected Him, Jesus died to provide a way for their sins to be forgiven so that they could spend eternity with God in heaven.
Jesus died for you, too. The blood He shed provides a way for you to be forgiven of your sins so that you, too, can spend eternity with God in heaven.
What are you crying out in your heart?
“Hosanna!” or “Crucify him!”?
Are you welcoming the King of Kings into your life or are you rejecting Him?
“Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.” Romans 8:8 & 9
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive my sins. I want Jesus to become the King of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
