Wednesday at the Well: Psalm 1:1 & 2 - Biblical Meditation

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Verses to Explore: Psalm 1:1 & 2

Biblical meditation doesn’t mean sitting with your body tied in knots in the lotus position and saying the same word again and again.

True meditation is thinking about what God says in the Bible, just like it says in Psalm 119:15, “I will study your instructions. I will give thought to your way of life.” Thinking about what the words mean. Thinking about how God’s words we’ve read in the Bible fit into our life. Thinking about how we are going to put what we’ve read and learned into practice in real life.

Have you ever tried Biblical meditation?

Give it a try. Psalm 1:1 & 2 tell us we will be blessed when we meditate on God's

word. These verses read: "Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night."

There is more than one way to meditate, but here’s a simple way to meditate that you may try.

  1. Choose one or two verses For today, I suggest you start with Psalm 1:1 & 2. (The Psalms, Proverbs, or a familiar passages like John 3:16, are good verses to meditate on.)

  2. Read the verses.

  3. Pray. Ask God what he wants you to learn from that verse.

  4. Read the verse again one or two times.

  5. Think about what it says. Decide on one way that you can do what it says.

I encourage you to start right now spending more time with God and thinking about all He says in His word!

Remember, the purpose of biblical meditation is to grow in your understanding of God and His word. Therefore, I encourage you to make Psalm 119:27 your prayer as you begin your commitment to regular biblical meditation. Let’s pray it together now. Heavenly Father, “Help us understand your instructions, and…think about your wonderful teachings.” In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Ok…It’s time now for you to download the Inductive Study Guide (click on the logo) and start meditating on God’s word.
