God's Promises

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Revelation 22:16

David was a great leader. He had defeated the Philistine giant, Goliath, with a sling and a stone. He had honorably waited for God to install him as King of Israel, refusing to

do anything to harm or dishonor Saul, the existing king. David ruled over Israel for forty years. God called David “a man after his own heart” because David lived to honor God. God promised that the Savior would come from David’s family.

Sadly, like us, David made mistakes. His mistakes and those of his sons led to the fall of his kingdom. However, even the demise of this godly man’s kingdom couldn’t keep God from keeping His promise.

Although through the years David’s family had been humbled and reduced to poverty, God kept his promise to David. Joseph, Jesus’ earthly father, was a descendant of David. Our Savior and King, Jesus was born from the family line of David. Jesus describes His relationship to David in Revelation 22:16 saying, “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

God kept his promise to David.

God will keep his promises to you, too. He has promised to forgive you for your sins and let you live forever in heaven with Him. He has promised to be with you always. He has also made many other promises to you. God is just waiting for you to give him the chance.

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:20

Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me and keep Your promise to give me eternal life through Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
