Wednesday at the Well: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 - Love

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Verses to Explore: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

There are different kinds of love. Love can be a strong, passionate feeling. Love can be a warm fondness. Love can even be a score in a tennis match.

The Bible has several meanings for the word love: love for friends, love for family members, sexual love, and unconditional love.

In today’s Bible reading Paul writes about God’s definition of love: unconditional love. Paul gives us a list of things that show us what God’s unconditional love is like. God’s love is accepting. God’s love is polite and kind. God’s love puts the other person’s feelings, needs, and happiness first. God’s love is truthful and honest. God’s love

forgives. God’s love protects. God’s love trusts completely. God’s love expects the best. God’s love is patient and is always there. God’s love says things that encourage and strengthen. God’s love is faithful. God’s love is pure.

This is the kind of love that God has for us. It is also the kind of love that God wants us to have for each other, even when someone is hard to love or is not kind to us. 1 John 3:11 tells us, “This is the teaching you have heard from the beginning: We must love each other.”

Let’s all remember the well-known words of 1 Corinthians 13:13, “So these three things continue: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.” Let’s also ask God to help us love everyone the way He loves us.

Heavenly Father, help us to love other people the same way You love us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
