Bible Reading: Acts 20:32
I once saw a Winnie the Pooh cartoon in which Pooh was trying to build a brick wall using honey instead of mortar. Instead of hardening and becoming a solid, dependable
wall, the honey oozed and the wall collapsed.
Acts 20:32 Paul said, “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” When we become Christians, God helps us build ourselves into strong, godly, dependable people, people who God can reliably use to do his work. The “mortar” that God uses to cement our lives into a strong, usable wall is:
* Bible reading, study, and memorization.
* Prayer, including talking to God and listening for His response and guidance.
* Fellowship with other Christians.
* Books, magazines, and music that reinforce the truths of the Bible.
Are you using God’s “mortar” to build the wall of your life or are you still trying to stick your life together using the honey of “I’ll do it my way”?
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6 & 7
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want my life to be a strong Christian witness. I want to commit right now to using “mortar” instead of “honey” to do that. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
