Living a Consistent Christian Life

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Bible Reading: Psalm 1:1

Imagine for a moment that a friend has asked you to lie for him. Perhaps he has done something he’d rather other people not know about. Perhaps he is planning to do

something of which his parents or other Christians wouldn’t approve. Perhaps he wants help cheating on a test or application. Maybe the lie seems small – a “little white lie.” What would you say to your friend? What would you say to God?

God says that lying is wrong. Lying is a sin. God doesn’t make exceptions or say that lying is okay if it is only a small lie. In God’s eyes, all lies are wrong.

Before you choose to go ahead and tell that “little white lie,” consider the words of Psalm 1:1 which says, “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.” If you want your friend to be truly blessed, he needs to be in the presence of godly people, people who consistently act and think according to God’s rules.

Is it better for your friend for you to “help” him by telling that lie or is it better for your friend to hear you say, “I can’t lie for you. God wouldn’t approve”?

Living in a way that shows a consistent, Christian witness is the best thing that you can do for your friend.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24 & 25

Prayer: Heavenly Father, make my life a blessing to those around me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
