Wednesday at the Well: Psalm 49:15-20 - Eternal Treasure

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Have you heard the expression, “You can’t take it with you?” That expression is what Psalm 49:17 means. This verse says, “They will not take anything with them when they die.”

They will not take their wealth with them.” That expression means that all the money and things we collect while we are here on earth will stay here when we die. It doesn’t matter how much money or things we have collected here on earth, those things will all stay here when we die. We can’t keep them.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:19, “Don't save treasures for yourselves here on earth. Moths and rust will destroy them. And thieves can break into your house and steal them.” God doesn’t want us to collect treasures that can be destroyed. He wants us to collect treasures that will last forever. What are some of these eternal treasures? Eternal treasures include the souls of friends and family that we’ve led to Jesus, the words of praise for God that we speak or

sign or think, and the rewards we earn for obeying God.

What are you saving for eternity? Will you be able to take the things you are collecting with you to heaven?

I hope so.

Let’s all pray and ask God to helps follow the instructions we find in Matthew 6:20 & 21 – “Save your treasures in heaven, where they cannot be destroyed by moths or rust and where thieves cannot break in and steal them. Your heart will be where your treasure is.” Matthew 6:20 & 21

Heavenly Father, thank You for making a way for us to go to heaven. Help us to collect treasures that will last forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
