Bible Reading: 1 Kings 3:5
Have you ever had a dream where you kept falling and falling and falling? How about a dream where you were flying? Dreams can sometimes be strange, sometimes
scary, or sometimes funny. Some times dreams are so vivid that we remember every detail. At other times we dream but don’t remember anything about our dream.
God sometimes speaks to or warns people in dreams. In 1 Kings 3:5 God spoke to Solomon in a dream saying, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Genesis 20:3, Genesis 28:12-15, Genesis 37:5-10, Daniel 7, and Matthew 2:13 are a more few examples of times when God spoke to people or warned people in the Bible through dreams.
God isn’t necessarily talking to you in every dream that you have, but, since God often speaks in a still, soft voice, He may be speaking to you while you are sleeping because that is the only time that you are still and quiet enough to hear him.
If you should have a dream then wonder if God was speaking to you through that dream, remember to follow John’s advice in 1 John 4:1 and “test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
How do you do that?
Compare your dream to what the Bible teaches. Pray, asking God to help you discern the truth. Seek advice by talking to mature, reliable Christians.
So, whether it’s day or night, whether you are actively praying or simply going about your daily routine, listen closely for the voice of God.
“No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.’” Acts 2:16 & 17
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’ll try to be quiet a little more often so that I can better hear Your voice. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
