Wednesday at the Well: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 - Enjoy Serving God

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

God gave each person “favorite” activities. Why? God wants us to enjoy serving him. He wants us to find ways to use the things we enjoy doing to serve him.

Do you like to work with your hands? Maybe God wants you to invent something like Jubal. Jubal invented the first harp. You can read about him in Genesis 4:20-21 which says, "Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock. His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play the harp and flute."

Maybe God wants you to repair things like Aquila and Priscilla. The three of them made and repaired tents. You can read about them in Acts 18:1-3.

Do you enjoy being outdoors? Maybe God wants you to create a new kind of work. Abel was the first shepherd and Cain was the first farmer. You can read about them in

Genesis 4.

Do you like to read or write? Maybe God wants you to write a book like Luke and John. Maybe God wants you to teach like Peter and Paul.

Maybe God has chosen something different and special for you to do, something new and unexpected.

Think about your hobbies and favorite activities. Search for ways to use your favorite things to serve God…and remember…“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:4) who gave each person the perfect skills, talents, and abilities that are perfect for him or her.

Heavenly Father, show us ways to use the skills You’ve given us so we can best honor serve You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Now it’s time for you to click the logo, download the study guide, and do some more study and exploration of 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 on your own so you can better understand the spiritual gifts God has given to you and how He wants you to use them.
