Wednesday at the Well: Psalm 47:3 - How to Get the Desires of Your Heart

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Welcome to this week’s Wednesday at the Well Inductive Bible Study! I’m glad you chose to join me. J Let’s start with a couple of my thoughts on today’s Bible verse, Psalm

37:4, then you can click the logo image, download the study guide, and do some more study and exploration of this verse on your own. Here we go!

Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” God has promised to give you the desires of your heart. If that’s true, why aren’t you rich or famous or a great athlete or whatever it is you desire?

Read the rest of Psalm 37. It explains that if you truly serve, worship, and please God, you will want the same things He wants. When you want what God wants, you are guarantee to receive those things when you pray for them.

God will give you what you desire as long as what you desire brings you closer to him, is what is best for you, fulfills his plan for your life, and allows him to use you to reach others.

What do you desire?

What does God desire for you?

The answers to those two questions should be the same.

Thank God that, as 1 John 5:14 & 15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.” What a joy to know that we can go to God, not only to tell Him about our troubles and needs, but to share with Him our deepest desires, confident that He will hear us and will give us the desires of our heart!

Heavenly Father, help us to want the same things for our lives that You want for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Now it’s time for you to download the guide and do your own IBS of Psalm 37. If you want to go even deeper, you can explore 1 John 5:14 & 15, too. When you’ve finished your study, take a moment to talk to God, share what you’ve learned, and ask Him to give you the desires of your heart. God bless!
