Take Refuge in God

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: Psalm 37:40

Psalm 37:40 contains an amazing promise: “The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.”

Don’t you love that promise?

It’s reassuring to know that God will be there to rescue us from wickedness and save us from those who wish to hurt us. So, why is it that it seems that we are still putting up with the bad behavior of bad people?

Maybe it’s because we’ve overlooked what we need to do in order to claim that promise. Read today’s scripture again. Look closely at the last five words. What action do people who want God to deal with the bad people in their lives take?

“They take refuge in him.” People who want God to defend them against evil must give their life over totally to God’s care and protection. They must commit their lives totally to God. They must run to Him and give him control over all of those bad people and their bad attitudes, then hide in the safety of God’s arms.

Are you hiding in the safety of God’s arms? Are you snuggled safely in His lap, trusting Him to deal with bad people and their bad behavior?

If not, if you are still plotting to take on bad people and their bad attitudes yourself, you aren’t doing what you need to do so that God can fight the battle for you.

“The way of the LORD is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.” Proverbs 10:29

Prayer: Heavenly Father, be my refuge. Protect me from those people who would like to harm me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
