Bible Reading: Philippians 1:21
In Philippians 1:21 Paul wrote, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
How can anyone believe that “to die is gain”?
When a Christian dies, his life doesn’t end. Actually, his life is just beginning. God created us to live with him forever, but because of sin, a barrier was between God and us. That barrier is death.
However, Jesus came to earth and died so that we could bypass that barrier. When we believe that, we no longer have to see death as the end of our lives. When we believe that Jesus died in our place, death becomes the door that opens into an eternal lifetime of freedom from evil and pain, of being reunited with loved ones, of living in our real home forever with God. With Jesus, death isn’t the end – it’s the beginning.
While we may not want to die this minute, we need to be ready when death does come. We need to know what will happen to us. When we know that we have Jesus in our lives, we know that our life won’t end; it will only get better. We know that, in fact, for us “to die is gain.”
Have you given your life to Jesus? Do you know that when you die, you will go on to live forever with Him? Are you ready?
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:24
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me and come live in my now so that when I die, I’ll live with You forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
