Bible Reading: Revelation 2:25
When you are tempted to do something that you think might be wrong, do you pray and ask God whether or not you should do it?
Don’t.
You never need to ask God whether or not you should do something that could be wrong. If you think that it might be wrong, it is wrong. Just being in doubt as to whether or not you should do it is proof enough. God will never tell you to do anything that is doubtful. Any doubtful situation is also a compromising situation. It could compromise your stand with Christ.
Is anything worth that?
What should you do when a doubtful, compromising situation comes up?
Ask God to give you the courage to stand up and do what you know in your heart to be right. Ask him to keep you pure and safe and to help you get away from the temptation to compromise your stand with Christ by compromising yourself. Obey His command in Revelation 2:25 which says, “Only hold on to what you have until I come.” Remain faithful. Remain pure. Continually do what is right and shun all evil. Obey the command in James 4:7: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
One of the best things you and I can do to help us stand strong in compromising or tempting situations is to have God’s word embedded in our brains. That will give us the strength we need to stand firm. That’s how Jesus resisted the temptation to give in and compromise Himself and His principles when Satan was tempting Him in the desert (Matthew 4), Jesus quoted scripture!
Let’s pray then you can begin to embed some scripture in your mind by doing an Inductive Bible Study of Revelation 2:25. (If you want, you can expand your time with God by doing an IBS of Matthew 4, too!) Click the logo for the IBS study guide.
Heavenly Father, help us to stand strong with You by our sides until Jesus comes or You take us to be with You in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
