Bible Reading: Proverbs 6:12-14
Proverbs 6:12-14 says, “A scoundrel and villain, who goes about with a corrupt mouth, who winks with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, who plots evil with
deceit in his heart – he always stirs up dissension.” This is a description of deceit.
Deceit is more than not telling the truth. While lying is one form of deceit, there are others.
* Have you made a promise, then broken it? That is deceit.
* Have you said that you will get something done, then neglected to do it? That is deceit.
* Have you withheld important information from someone? That is deceit.
* Do you act one way on Sunday morning but act like a completely different person the rest of the week? That is deceit.
* Have you told your parents, or someone else, that you were going one place, then, chose to go somewhere else without doing them the courtesy of letting them know of your change of plans? Did you think, “What they don’t know won’t hurt them?” That is deceit.
Have you been deceiving someone through your actions? Who? A friend? Your parents? God? Yourself?
What are you going to do about it?
“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.” 1 Peter 3:10
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to remove all deceit from my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
