Bible Reading: Proverbs 14:16
Are you afraid of God?
You should be. Proverbs 14:16 says, “A wise man fears the LORD and shuns evil, but a
fool is hotheaded and reckless.”
Not, “Oh, I’m so scared,” afraid, but, “I’m afraid I might hurt you,” afraid.
When we disobey God, we disappoint him. We dishonor him. We let him down.
If we truly love him, we should be afraid of doing anything – or neglecting to do anything – that could hurt God, offend him, or make him sad.
Our love for God should prompt us to consistently obey him by serving him, serving others, and sharing the gospel of Jesus.
Are you developing some healthy fear of God?
“Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.” 1 Peter 2:17
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to obey You. I really am afraid of letting You down. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
