Bible Reading: Matthew 5:48
God is perfect.
God NEVER –
* Sins.
* Lies.
* Makes mistakes.
* Says the wrong thing.
God is ALWAYS –
* Kind.
* Gentle.
* Forgiving.
* Dependable.
* Available.
* Loving.
How can we possibly be as perfect as God is?
The truth is, we can’t be perfect and God doesn’t expect us to be perfect.
When Jesus gave this command, he had been talking about love. (Read Matthew 5:43-48). Verse 48 of this passage says, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” The only thing God expects us to be perfect about doing is to love other people the same way that God loves them. We are not to pick out favorite people to love more. We are not to leave anyone unloved. We are to love every person completely and unconditionally, just the way God loves him or her – and us.
When we perfectly love people and perfectly love God, we are perfectly obeying all God’s commands.
Are you striving toward perfection in loving people the way God loves them?
“‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’” Matthew 22:36 & 37
Prayer: Heavenly Father, point out to me any person that I don’t love the way You love me. Help me to love him or her. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
