Bible Reading: Psalm 119:1
Have you ever watched a cat with a piece of tape stuck on the bottom of its paw?
The cat will take a step, then shake its paw, take a step, then shake its paw…over and
over again in an attempt to get free of the sticky irritation. Shaking its paw won’t get rid of that sticky tape. The cat needs someone to come along, pick it up, and gently pull the tape off the bottom of its foot.
Habits are like that. We can try everything that we can think of to shake free of our bad habits. We can be completely determined to get rid of our bad habits and do only those things that God wants us to do. However, on our own, using only our own strength, we can’t shake off our bad habits.
Jesus gives us the power we need to shake free of our bad habits. When we let Jesus into our lives, he can reach down and gently remove our bad habits little by little, one by one, so that we can be free forever from their sticky irritation.
When we welcome the power of Christ into our lives and allow Him to help us remove those “sticky habits,” Psalm 119:1 tells us, “Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD.”
I pray that you will allow Jesus to help you remove “sticky habits” from your life wo you can receive God’s promised blessing.
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
Prayer: Heavenly Father, come take away my bad habits and replace them with habits that please You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
