Bible Reading: Colossians 3:5 & 6
When is enough, enough?
Do you think that you will be happy if you have just one more CD, one more video, one more game for your Playstation or Nintendo, one more outfit, one more body part
pierced, one more…?
One more of any thing won’t make you any happier or more content than you are now. All wanting one more… and one more… and one more does is demonstrate a character flaw that God wants us to “put to death” or permanently banish from our lives – greed.
Greed is one form of idolatry – making things more important than God is.
Haven’t you had enough of things? In Colossians 3:5 & 6 Paul urges us to put greed and other sinful habits behind us. He warns us to banish them from our lives for good saying, “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.”
Why not spend just one more minute with God and get something of eternal value?
“So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.” Galatians 5:16 & 17
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’ve had enough of things that can’t make me eternally happy. All I want more of is You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
