Stars

Bible Reading: Psalm 33:6

Psalm 33:6 says, “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”

The stars are one of God’s most beautiful and awe-inspiring creations. They show us God’s power. They demonstrated God’s sense of order and organization. They reveal God’s limitless knowledge. They sparkle of God’s artistic ability. They highlight God’s love of beauty.

God created the stars to give us light at night. The sun, the closest star to our earth, was created to give us light during the day and to keep our world at the perfect temperature to support life. If the sun were any closer to the earth, we would burn up. If it were any farther away, we would freeze to death. God carefully placed each star, including the sun, in its place. God knows exactly how many stars there are and has even named each of them (Psalm 147:4).

While the stars show us God, they have no power of their own. They can’t control our lives today nor can they tell us what will happen in the future. Astrology and horoscopes make gods of the stars by trying to give them the power to control life. God never intended for us give the stars power over our lives. To do that is the same as worshipping them (Deuteronomy 4:19).

The next time you look up at the stars, enjoy the view and worship the God who created such a gorgeous view.

“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.” Psalm 147:4

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I love watching the stars, but I love worshipping You even more. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
