Wednesday at the Well: Romans Road Inductive Bible Study

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Welcome to the first day of my newly revamped Wednesday at the Well posts. In that past, Wednesday at the Well had been simply a passage of scripture for you, my dear

readers, to read and ponder. Also, Wednesday at the Well appeared only when there was a fifth Wednesday in the month.

Starting today, I am expanding Wednesday at the Well in two ways.

First, Wednesday at the Well is now a weekly post. It will appear every Wednesday.

Second, Wednesday at the Well will have new content. In addition to a scripture passage, I am linking to a wonderful pdf that will walk you through an Inductive Bible Study of that day’s scripture passage. This pdf will give you all the help you need to study that day’s Bible passage for yourself. You can take your time with this study. You may do it in an hour or stretch it out and work on it all week. It’s up to you.

This pdf was adapted from Moody Church’s Precept-upon-Precept Ministries program called Orientation to Inductive Bible Study. It is only 2 pages long and is made up of two sections. (Thanks to Moody Church & Precept-upon-Precept for allowing me to use and link to their page and file! You people are awesome!)

Click here on on the Inductive Bible Study image on the page to find an explanation for how to do an Inductive Bible Study. Here’s a glimpse (FYI, I had to redo the pdf file, so it looks differently than the glimpses below.) :

The second page of Orientation to Inductive Bible Study gives a beautiful set of simple symbols that you can write or draw in your Bible as you study the passage. When you read something in the Bible verses that relates to one of these symbols, just draw it in the margin of your Bible near the verse Here’s a sample of the symbols:

Now, let’s get started with our first Inductive Bible Study. First, remember to pray before and after your study and invite the Holy Spirit to teach you.

This week’s Bible verses are a series of verses often referred to as the Romans Road. There are several versions of the Romans Road. The Romans Road is a great set of verses to use when talking to people about how and why we each need to be saved through faith in Jesus Christ. Here is the Romans Road:

* Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

* Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord.”

* Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

* Romans 10:13 – “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

*Romans 10:9 & 10 – “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

Read through the Orientation to Inductive Bible Study pdf found here. Then follow the instructions in that file as you read each verse in the Romans Road.

If you have questions, please leave them in the comments below. I will do my best to help you. Take your time. Enjoy your study time with God. Then come back next Wednesday for another dip into the well of God’s word.
