Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
French hens are Faverolles, a kind of female chicken found in France. French hens are good egg-laying chickens. Now, French hens are raised mostly for show, but, in the
past, they were kept as pets for children because they are very gentle.
Perhaps that gentleness was why “three French hens” were chosen to represent faith, hope, and love in the song The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Faith, hope, and love are all gentle traits. They are mentioned together in 1 Corinthians 13:13, the last verse in “The Love Chapter” of the Bible which says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
The three French hens remind us to have faith in Jesus which gives us hope for an eternal life in heaven and the ability to love one another. These gentle birds seem a perfect reminder of these biblical truths!
Let’s thank God for the faith we can have in Jesus and the hope and love it causes to grow in our hearts!
“We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 1:3
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the hope I have because of my faith in Jesus. Help me to share that hope with others by showing them Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
