The 12 Days of Christmas (Part 9)

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: John 3:1-21

Matthew, Mark, Luke, John – These are the names of the four gospels. They are also what is represented by the “four calling birds” in the song, The Twelve Days of Christmas.

There is nothing more important in the Bible than understanding who Jesus is and why He came to earth. The four gospels tell us about Jesus’ birth, His life on earth, and His death and resurrection. Understanding that we have all sinned, our sins separated us from God, and we need Jesus’ forgiveness in order to secure our place in heaven is a matter of life and death.

John 3 summarizes the message of the gospels. Verse 16 is often called, “The Gospel in a Nutshell.” This verse reads, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Verses 17 & 18 go on to add, “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.”

The four calling birds are calling out to each one of us saying, “God loves you! Jesus died – for you! Jesus rose – for you! Let Jesus into your life!” I hope you have responded to their call.

“…that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” John 3:15

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for calling out to me with Your offer of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
